The question hides two very different meanings. Some people ask whether shilajit increases penis size. Others mean muscle size. The honest answer to the first is no: there is no evidence that shilajit, or any supplement, permanently changes penile length or girth in an adult. The muscle question has a more interesting answer that is still not what the marketing implies. The direct answer on penis size
There is no scientific evidence that shilajit enlarges the penis. No human trial has measured penile length or girth as an outcome of taking it, and there is no plausible mechanism by which a mineral resin would remodel adult genital anatomy. Adult penis size is set by tissue structure that does not grow back in response to a supplement. Any page promising permanent enlargement from shilajit is selling a claim the research does not contain. That is the whole answer, and the rest of this page explains why the myth persists and what shilajit is actually studied for.
Why the size myth spreads
The myth is built on a chain of reasonable-sounding steps that breaks at the end. Shilajit has one small trial suggesting it can raise testosterone in middle-aged men. Testosterone is genuinely central to male sexual development. So the marketing leaps to the idea that more testosterone means a bigger penis. The problem is the last step. Testosterone drives penile growth during puberty, but in an adult man raising testosterone within or above the normal range does not increase penis size. It can influence libido and, indirectly, erection quality, but not the physical dimensions of the organ. The chain is real up to a point and then quietly substitutes desire and erection for anatomy.
Two other things fuel the confusion. A firmer, fuller erection can feel larger, which people then report as size. And traditional Ayurvedic reputation for shilajit as an aphrodisiac gets translated online into enlargement language it never originally made.
What the testosterone evidence actually shows
The testosterone claim rests on a single randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in healthy men aged 45 to 55. Over 90 days the shilajit group showed significant rises in total testosterone, free testosterone, and DHEAS versus placebo. It is a decent design for its size, but it is one study, it has not been independently replicated, and the abstract reports significance without effect sizes, so you cannot tell how large the change was. In healthy men aged 45 to 55, purified shilajit 250 mg twice daily for 90 days significantly raised total testosterone, free testosterone, and DHEAS versus placebo in a single randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with no published effect sizes. Erections and blood flow, honestly
The nearest thing to a size-adjacent mechanism is blood flow, and here the evidence is animal only. In a rat study, shilajit relaxed erectile tissue and enhanced acetylcholine-mediated relaxation, which the authors linked to its traditional aphrodisiac reputation. That is a plausible mechanism for erection quality, but it was measured in rat tissue, not in men, and tissue relaxation is about firmness of an erection, not the size of the organ. Critically, no controlled human trial shows shilajit treats erectile dysfunction or improves erections in people. If firmer erections are the goal, this is unproven, and it is not a substitute for evaluated erectile-dysfunction medicine.

There is also no dedicated human trial isolating male libido. The libido reputation is inferred from the small testosterone rise plus tradition, not demonstrated in a placebo-controlled study of men.
The muscle-size question
If you mean muscle size, the evidence is more concrete but still narrower than the ads suggest. The one genuine randomised, placebo-controlled trial found that shilajit helped exercising young men retain strength under fatigue, and it lowered a marker of connective-tissue breakdown. That is fatigue-resistance and recovery, not hypertrophy. A separate, very small study without a placebo arm found shilajit switched on a cluster of muscle repair and collagen genes, which is a mechanism finding, not a strength or size outcome. So shilajit may plausibly support recovery and connective tissue in people who train, but no trial shows it builds bigger muscles on its own.
In recreationally active young men, 8 weeks of shilajit at 500 mg per day helped retain muscular strength under fatigue better than placebo and lowered a connective-tissue breakdown marker, a fatigue-resistance effect rather than muscle-size gain, in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 63 men. In a small human study of 16 men with no placebo arm, 8 weeks of shilajit upregulated a cluster of muscle extracellular-matrix and collagen genes, which is a gene-expression finding and not a proven strength or muscle-size outcome. [Das 2016, J Med Food] Preliminary evidence
What the brands claim vs what the evidence shows
Mainstream shilajit brands are mostly careful here. Cymbiotika, PurBlack, BetterAlt, Wellness Nest, and Nootropics Depot market testosterone support, vitality, and energy, not penis enlargement. The enlargement framing tends to come from lower-tier sellers, marketplace listings, and affiliate blogs that stack the testosterone study on top of the aphrodisiac tradition and let readers infer size. Independent coverage is blunt that this is marketing rather than fact: raising testosterone in an adult does not change penile dimensions, and enlargement claims have no medical support. The reputable message is the honest one, which is that shilajit is studied for hormones and fatigue, not anatomy.
- Claimed by sellers: increases penis size or length. Shown: nothing. No human trial measures this and no mechanism supports it.
- Claimed: boosts testosterone, therefore bigger. Shown: a small T signal in middle-aged men that does not translate to adult anatomy.
- Claimed: harder, larger erections. Shown: a rat tissue-relaxation study only, no human erectile-dysfunction trial.
- Claimed: more muscle mass. Shown: fatigue-resistance and gene activity, not hypertrophy.
What real users report
On supplement and testosterone forums, the size question comes up often and is usually answered by other users with the same correction: shilajit did not change their size, and anyone claiming otherwise is describing a firmer erection or a placebo effect. The more common real-world reports are higher libido, subjective warmth or drive within a few weeks, and steadier gym energy, alongside plenty of no-effect reports. Experienced posters consistently frame shilajit as mild support rather than a performance drug, and steer newcomers away from enlargement listings toward the same two practical concerns that dominate these communities: is the resin genuine, and does it have a current third-party heavy-metal test. That skepticism is well placed.
What the research does not support
- Any increase in penis length or girth. There is no trial and no mechanism.
- Treating erectile dysfunction. The only erectile-tissue data are from rats.
- A proven libido effect in men. No dedicated human libido trial exists; it is inferred from the small testosterone signal.
- Building muscle mass. The human evidence is fatigue-resistance, not hypertrophy.
- Using shilajit as a substitute for testosterone therapy or erectile-dysfunction medication.

The honest bottom line: shilajit does not increase penis size, and no supplement does. What the research offers instead is a small, single-study testosterone signal in middle-aged men and a fatigue-resistance effect in men who train, both modest and both unreplicated.
